2 killed, toddler injured when off-road vehicle crashes into tree in Waterford Township

Passenger, toddler thrown from vehicle during crash, police say

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Two women were killed and a 3-year-old child was injured in an off-road vehicle crash in Waterford Township, according to police.

The crash happened at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, in the area of Jones Road near Hatchery Road in Waterford Township.

Police said the driver was speeding north on Jones Road in a 2019 Polaris-RZR off-road vehicle when the vehicle left the road and crashed into a tree.

The passengers, a 31-year-old woman and a 3-year-old girl, were thrown from the vehicle. The driver, a 42-year-old woman, was trapped inside the vehicle.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the 31-year-old woman was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The 3-year-old girl was transported to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital and is expected to recover.

Police said it does not appear anyone was wearing a restraint at the time of the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
