Body found by kayaker identified as missing woman from Wayne County

WAYNE, Mich. – A body found by a kayaker has been identified as a woman who went missing in Wayne County.

Detectives from the Wayne Police Department were called around 5:15 p.m. Oct. 16, 2024, to the Lower Rouge River, near Pershing Street.

A kayaker told police that a human body was tangled along the embankment.

When officers arrived, they confirmed that the remains were human and pulled them from the river. Additional remains from the same body were found the next morning.

Body identified

The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the remains as belonging to a 56-year-old woman from Wayne. She had been reported missing on Aug. 18, 2024.

The body was identified using dental records.

Her cause of death has not been determined. The case is still under investigation.
