Trees prevent single-engine plane from hitting Washtenaw County homes during emergency landing

A 70-year-old man was hospitalized

WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. – A single-engine airplane was stopped by trees during an emergency landing in Washtenaw County.

The emergency landing occurred on Monday (Oct. 21) at 3:44 p.m. near a privately owned airport on Bemis Road between Rawsonville Road and Mckean Road.

The trees stopped the plane from hitting manufactured homes that were nearby.

Officials say there was a small fuel leak, which the fire department contained.

Michigan State Police say the pilot, who is a Metro Detroit man in his 70s, was taken to a Metro Detroit hospital to be checked out as he complained of neck and back pain.
