FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Officials in Farmington Hills rescued a deer from a swimming pool on Monday, Oct. 21.
According to authorities, fire crews and police hoofed it to a home on Wildwood Trail after a white-tailed deer learned the hard way that it was not an Asian water deer.
They managed to create a ramp out of a sheet of plywood that the deer was able to climb up before running off into the woods. Its freedom must have felt like a million bucks.
Sgt. Nick Newcomb, with the Farmington Hills Fire Department, said he’s never done an animal rescue quite like this one before.
“This is my first time having a deer rescue,” Newcomb said. “Our main priority is just saving life for the community and giving back.”
Gary Vance said his family had the windows open due to the beautiful weather and that alerted them to the commotion outside. After attempting to help on their own, they decided to call the fire department.
Newcomb said it was a collaborative effort between the family, police and fire crews to get the deer out of the pool.
Something to fawn over: neither the deer nor the people involved in the rescue were injured.
