DETROIT – Detroit will officially name its interim police chief Friday after James White accepted a new position.
Mayor Mike Duggan will make the announcement around 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2024.

White will leave the Detroit Police Department in November and become the new CEO of the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network.
The Board of Police Commissioners will conduct a national search for his permanent replacement.
In the meantime, Deputy Mayor Todd Bettison is expected to serve as the interim chief.
