MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – A former Monroe County Intermediate School District employee has been arrested following a barricaded hostage situation.

The incident occurred on Friday (Oct. 25) in the 1101 block of S. Rainsnville Road in Monroe Township.

Officials said that staff alerted Sergeant Jason Miller about a man acting erratic outside the building while assigned to ISD.

Miller was able to locate the man, who was identified as an ISD employee, in a rear parking lot and engaged in conversation.

While speaking with the former employee, Miller said the man made movements and gestures that made him think he may have been armed.

Miller alerted Monroe County Central Dispatch about the situation in which multiple units from across the county converged in the area.

The man began walking southbound from the school and ultimately off school grounds, with Miller following behind.

Once off school grounds, the former employee entered an occupied, unlocked home in the 1100 block of S. Raisinville Road.

Inside the home were two women victims and a man victim. Once inside the residence, the former teacher barricaded himself in a bedroom with one of the women.

Deputies surrounded the home and entered it; at that time, they began negotiations with the former school employee.

Deputies forced entry into the bedroom, ultimately rescuing the hostage and arresting the man for home invasion without further incident.

One of the women sustained minor injuries and was treated at Promedica Monroe Regional Hospital.

The Monroe County Detective Bureau is still investigating the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact 734-240- 7530 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800 Speak-Up.
