DETROIT – Detroit police Chief James White said he doesn’t believe Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams received special treatment during a traffic stop this month where two pistols were allegedly found.
“Well, we don’t know yet, right? We don’t think so. I mean, we’ve got various incidents that have happened over the years where the actions of the officers were right, no problem. But we want to make sure that the perception and the false narrative that he did is either proven or disproven, and that’s what we’re looking at.”

The traffic stop involving Williams happened on Oct. 8.
According to his attorney, Williams was a passenger in the car.
His attorney also said the pistols were properly registered, and the driver had the proper credentials.

Williams was not arrested or cited.
Now, the department is conducting an internal review to determine whether the officers on the scene made the right call.
This is as the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is now reviewing a warrant request submitted by the Detroit Police Department.
“We just received that warrant request, so we have to look at it and treat that as we do any other case as far as looking at it and seeing if we can charge and, if we can charge, what we would charge. We just don’t know at this point.”
