Warren Police Department sued by innocent bystander injured in fiery crash

Incident occurred in June

WARREN, Mich.Warren police pursuing a car at high speeds through a neighborhood injured a woman who wasn’t involved, and now she’s suing the department.

The incident occurred in June 2024 when police spotted a Dodge Charger without a license plate, and the driver sped off.

After leading police through a busy residential area, the suspect sped off onto some main roads, leading to the fiery crash.

The bystander police pulled from a burning car was Brittny Turner, who is suing, but Warren police are pushing back.

Warren police said there was one person responsible for Turner being hit and injured, and that was the man they were chasing.

“I can’t say the word that I would want to say on camera,” said Turner. “I believe that statement is bull.”

Turner’s body was shattered with broken bones and burns as she was slammed into by the driver who was speeding away from Warren police, who were in a high-speed pursuit this past June.

“Warren Police Department and every officer that pulled that young man over is responsible,” Turner said.

Turner is suing Warren police for $60 million.

“The bad guy strikes an innocent motorist, and yet we’re blamed,” said Warren police Lieutenant John Gajewski. “Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me?”

On Wednesday (Oct. 30), Warren police reacted, telling Local 4 that their department had engaged in roughly 250 pursuits this year.

Police showed the cruiser camera video of the incident where Turner was hit.

“There is one person responsible for this incident and any injury sustained to Ms. Turner, and that would be the defendant, Keith Jones, who pled guilty,” Gajewski said. “The defendant who made a conscious decision to flee from the Warren police.”

Police made a traffic stop on Jones' Charger for having no plate; a pursuit ensued through neighborhoods and ended at 8 Mile Road and Mound, with Jones slamming into Turner.

Warren police said they are doing the job residents expect them to do.

“With doing a job, you do it within practice of your scope,” Turner said. “And then you do your job safely first.”
