LANSING, Mich. – The official 2024 state Christmas tree will soon be on display at the Michigan Capitol for the holiday season.
The 60-foot spruce is being harvested Friday from a rural neighborhood in Eagle, which is located in Clinton County. It was donated by Rich and Dorcas Alberston, according to a release from the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB).
The tree will be harvested by the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association, the Michigan Association of Timbermen and the DTMB Christmas tree crew on Friday.
After that, the tree is scheduled to arrive at the Michigan Capitol at around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Boy Scouts will then continue their tradition of untying the Christmas tree.
A crew from the HI-Ball Company will use a crane to place the tree near the intersection of Capitol and East Michigan avenues.
This is the second tree from Clinton County being used as an official state Christmas tree, and it is the 14th tree from Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, according to the DTMB.
Lansing’s forestry team will prepare the tree with lights and decorations ahead of the tree lighting ceremony, which will be held on Friday, Nov. 22 during the 40th annual Silver Bells in the City celebration. The tree lights will be held at about 7:30 p.m.
