What happens if you choose straight ticket and still vote in individual races in Michigan elections?

You can choose the “straight party” option and still vote in individual races in Michigan elections.

If you fill out the straight ticket, or straight party, option, and fill out each race individually your ballot will still be valid. The choice under each race overrides the straight party option.

Detroit calling for artists to create new statue of Joe Louis

The City of Detroit is calling out to artists to make a new statue for Joe Louis, and there’s a perfect spot for it.

The statue will be located along Joe Louis Greenway. It will highlight Louis’ life outside of the ring as a golfer who paved the way for Black Americans on the course. The deadline for the statue commission application is Nov. 11, 2024.

The statue is set to be unveiled in August 2025.

What we know: Dearborn jewelry store targeted by masked men linked to nationwide robberies

The FBI is investigating a string of jewelry store robberies nationwide, including Mariam Jewelry in Dearborn.

The suspects appear to wear Halloween masks and carry weapons.

Mariam Jewelry, a family-owned business, was robbed by gunmen on Aug. 7.

60-foot Christmas tree to be delivered to Michigan Capitol this weekend

The official 2024 state Christmas tree will soon be on display at the Michigan Capitol for the holiday season.

The 60-foot spruce is being harvested Friday from a rural neighborhood in Eagle, which is located in Clinton County. It was donated by Rich and Dorcas Alberston, according to a release from the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB).

The tree will be harvested by the Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association, the Michigan Association of Timbermen and the DTMB Christmas tree crew on Friday.

Weather: Sunshine, cooler & breezy across Metro Detroit through the end of the week

After rain showers and breezy winds to end our Thursday, we are going to keep the breezy winds into the forecast looking ahead throughout our Friday. Expect a decrease in cloud covers. We work throughout the day so we will see some sunshine by Friday afternoon. High temperature is much colder, only in the low 50s this afternoon, with wind gusting as high as 25 to 30 miles an hour much of the day today.
