ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – A 72-year-old Rochester Hills man is in “grave condition” after he was hit by a car while crossing an Oakland County street over the weekend, officials said.

The crash happened at 6:45 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, near the intersection of Rochester and Avon roads.

The pedestrian was walking westbound on Avon Road and attempting to cross Rochester Road when he was hit by a 2013 Ford Focus traveling northbound on Rochester Road, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. A 28-year-old citizen of Colombia was driving the Focus.

Officials say the 72-year-old man was wearing a reflective vest and was believed to be walking in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he is in “grave condition.”

The sheriff’s office says speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in this crash.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection determined that the 28-year-old Colombia man entered the U.S. illegally. He was released pending a future hearing in federal court.
