Everything we know: Woman found dead, dozens displaced in Southfield apartment fire

Fire started in second-story apartment

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A 73-year-old woman died after a fire ripped through an apartment fire in Southfield Monday afternoon.

The fire broke out at Le Chateau apartments on Southfield Road, near 10 Mile Road, on Nov. 4. Fire crews from six neighboring communities assisted in extinguishing the blaze.

Residents displaced, woman found dead

Officials said the fire started in the second-story apartment, causing the roof to collapse. At least 32 apartment homes were damaged or destroyed.

It’s unclear where the woman was found in the apartment complex, but officials told Local 4 the 73-year-old woman was found dead inside the building during the fire.

At least three injured

At least three people sustained minor injuries from smoke inhalation, with another person hospitalized.

No word on cause

It’s unclear what caused the fire. Local 4 is still working to learn more from officials.
