How do I register to vote on Election Day?
Michigan voters have up until 8 p.m. on Election Day to register to vote. Residents must go to their city or township clerk‘s office by 8 p.m. on Nov. 5 to register.
What to bring with me to register to vote on Election Day?
To register to vote on Election Day, Michigan voters must bring proof of residency with them to their clerk’s office. The documents showing proof of residency must have the voter’s name and current address on them. Digital copies of the documents may be used.
The acceptable documents to show proof of residency include the following:
- Michigan driver’s license or state ID
- Current utility bill
- Bank statement
- Paycheck or government check
- Other government document
Am I eligible to register to vote?
To be eligible to register to vote, a resident must be:
- A Michigan resident, at the time they register, and a resident of their city or township for at least 30 days
- A United States citizen
- At least 18 years old
- Not currently serving a sentence in jail or prison
How to get a free ride to vote on Election Day
Free and discounted rides are being offered for Michigan voters who need to get to the polls on Election Day. Lyft and Uber are offering discounted rides, and transit systems are offering free rides for voting-related activities.
