FARMINGTON Hills, Mich. – A man who stabbed his ex-wife’s new partner in Farmington Hills last year, and pushed down on his chest to make him bleed out while their kids were in the room, has been sentenced.
This week, Curtis Leroy Washington Jr. was sentenced to four to 15 years in prison on an assault with intent to murder charge, along with a second offense domestic violence charge.
Case Background
The stabbing happened at about 1:50 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, at the Timberidge Apartments near Grand River Avenue and Middlebelt Road.
Washington allegedly broke into his ex-wife’s house and found her new partner there.
He then pulled out a knife and stabbed the man in the back once and in the chest four times, according to police.
Body camera video showed Washington pushing down on the man’s chest after he stabbed him, to make him bleed out.
This all happened with Washington’s youngest child and infant in the room, just inches away.
The responding officers quickly assessed the situation and decided not to shoot. Officers then worked to rescue the stabbing victim.
“This could very easily have escalated to a fatal force situation,” Farmington Hills Police Department Chief Jeff King said last year after the shooting. “The suspect had an up and down motion on top of the victim in low light chaotic situation. These officers, due to their quality and continuous training that they have, were able to assess that situation and quickly decide not to use that escalated force response.”
This stabbing wasn‘t the first time Washington was connected to a domestic violence dispute. Sixteen days before this happened, Washington was arrested for domestic violence and was released on bond.
