HARBOR SPRINGS, Mich. – State police are investigating after a worker found pipe bombs in a donation box at a thrift store in Northern Michigan.
At 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, troopers from the Gaylord Post responded to the New Beginnings Thrift Shop in Harbor Springs after receiving a report that several pipe bombs had been found.
A worker had picked up a box of donated items, which included several tools. When they moved the tools around, they discovered several pipe bombs in the box, state police said.
When the MSP Bomb Squad team arrived, they took an X-ray of the pipe bombs and found that one had a fuse and powder.
They rendered it safe and disposed of the bomb. The canine team conducted an explosive sweep of the thrift store and the surrounding area.
No other explosive devices were found. The investigation is ongoing.
