OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Oakland County residents passed a millage in the 2024 General Election focusing on improving and renewing parks. With the increased taxes, residents can soon see benefits from the county parks.

Free park entry

Residents will get free entry to Oakland County parks and dog parks. This excludes pay-to-play attractions such as golf courses, waterparks, campgrounds and off-road vehicle parks. The following parks will eliminate vehicle entry fees:

  • Addison Oaks
  • Groveland Oaks
  • Highland Oaks
  • Independence Oaks
  • Lyon Oaks (Park and Dog Park)
  • Orion Oaks (Park and Dog Park)
  • Red Oaks Dog Park
  • Rose Oaks

Making parks more accessible

The investment can help create equipment and facilities designed to be accessible for all, regardless of age and ability.

Renewing, improving parks and trails

The millage can help update and modernize parks and recreational facilities throughout the county. Trailways can also be improved and expanded.

School field trips

The millage can help support more school field trips to nature and farm education centers in the county and expand enrichment programs for everyone.

Millage costs

The net .30 increase in the millage passed on Nov. 5, 2024, will equal $40 a year for the average residential taxable value home.

The $24 million investment will go towards park improvements, trails, recreational attractions and the Oakland County Farmers Market.
