Crash in Detroit’s east side kills 7-year-old, critically injures sibling

Alcohol suspected to be factor in crash

DETROIT – A 7-year-old boy has died, and his sibling is critically injured Saturday after a three-car crash in Detroit’s east side.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 9, 2024, near 7 Mile and Mound.

Police said a car, driven by a 25-year-old man, failed to stop at a traffic light and collided with two cars. A 7-year-old boy and a 5-year-old were in one of the cars that were struck.

The 7-year-old boy died at the scene, and his sibling was sent to a local hospital with critical injuries. Police said all other passengers involved in the crash received minor injuries.

The 25-year-old man initially drove away but returned to the scene of the crash two hours later. He was then arrested.

Police believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
