NOVI, Mich. – Motor City Comic Con is taking place this weekend at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi.
“One of the sides of it I particularly love is coming to things like this, because this is where you really get to interact with the fans directly, and see how the stories you’ve written have connected with people,” novelist and comic book author Charles Soule said.
That’s just one of the reasons that fans of all ages descend on Motor City Comic Con twice a year, to spread the love of all things pop culture. For one group, what started off as something small has turned into much more, spreading happiness and the love of pop culture that continues year in and year out.
Eric Lindlow, with the Detroit Ghostbusters, said, “So it started off as a Halloween thing, right? Then we kinda became a group, now we’ve got a whole team of people. So how long . . . over a decade now”.
Pop culture genres of all types, artists, vendors and celebrities all bring new things to the convention.
“Absolutely, every time we get a lot more people saying its their first convention, and every time they come back for the next one,” said, Jacob Shuman, with Motor City Comic Con.
When you come into the convention hall, it’s like you step into another world as people don their uniforms and fantasy costumes to participate in the “reality” of the science fiction universe.
“Definitely the cosplays. Getting to people watch, standing in the middle of the floor and be entertained all day with the amount of effort people put into what they do at home, and getting to come in here for the weekend dressed up as something,” Shuman said.
Motor City Comic Con has something for everyone, whether you’re 5 years old or 50 years old, whether you’re a fan of Star Trek, Star Wars, Pokémon, there’s something for everybody that keeps people coming back year after year to take a break from reality, and enjoy a little bit in the fantasy world as well.
