CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police are investigating a case of inappropriate text messages being sent to a young girl from a fellow student in Macomb County.
It took place at Algonquin Middle School in the Chippewa Valley School District.
Clinton Township police have been handling the investigation, and they’ve turned everything over to the prosecutor’s office.
The victim’s father just wishes the school district had done more to protect his child.
“She left a note on Thursday night that said, ‘Dad, please don’t let me go to school tomorrow. Can I please stay home? I don’t want to see him,”’ said her father, Robert Ellison.
Ellison says his 11-year-old daughter just doesn’t feel safe going to Algonquin Middle School anymore. It all stemmed from when another student, an 11-year-old boy, allegedly started asking her to send nudes of herself via text.
“All these incidents happened during her fifth hour,” Ellison said. “The text messages, the pictures, everything.”
Ellison says the students are back in school; he’s been working on filing a PPO on the young man to keep him away.
Attorney Todd Perkins said, although a minor, the boy could easily be granted one in juvenile court.
“I think that the bottom age is 10 years old to 17 years old,” said Todd Perkins.
Ellison says he contacted the school’s principal, counselor, and resource officer about how his daughter felt uncomfortable with the boy being allowed to return.
“She went to walk to her fifth hour, and the principal had moved the gentleman’s locker right to her fifth hour in front of her class. So she was confronted right away,” Ellison said.
The Chippewa Valley School District sent Local 4 a statement on the incident.
“We immediately referred the matter to the Clinton Township Police Department. A police report was made and is currently with the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Any student that sends inappropriate text messages to another student can face serious school and legal consequences.”
