DETROIT – A Detroit family is grieving the loss of their 7-year-old son, who was killed by an alleged drunk driver last week.
Jerome Coleman Sr. said his son Jermone Coleman Jr. died on the scene of the crash Saturday at Mound Road and 7 Mile Road in Detroit.
“I believe my son lost breath before that truck stopped rolling,” Coleman Sr. said.
Coleman’s 5-year-old daughter, Kiaree, was seriously hurt in the crash.
“I could have lost them both,” Coleman Sr. said. “I had already lost one, and then I’m looking at another one right here on life support.”
Kiaree was released from the hospital Wednesday (Nov. 6) with a broken collarbone and fractured skull.
The family is planning a vigil for Jerome Jr. on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the scene of the crash.
“My biggest focus is burying my son right now and putting my family back together because this right here has torn this family apart,” Jerome Sr. said.
The driver has been arrested and charged.
