DETROIT – Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 15-year-old boy from Detroit in connection with the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy and the non-fatal shooting of a 32-year-old woman, also of Detroit.
The 32-year-old woman is the mother of the 14-year-old, and officials say he is not being charged as an adult defendant.

He has been adult designated, meaning that upon conviction, an adult designation allows the judge to sentence the respondent as a juvenile or as an adult or to fashion a blended juvenile sentence with the option of imposing an adult sentence if the juvenile is not rehabilitated.
On Nov. 7, 2024, around 6 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to the area of Seward and Second avenues for a reported shooting.
Upon their arrival, officers observed the 14-year-old victim on the ground, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Medics arrived on the scene and transported the 14-year-old boy to a Metro Detroit hospital.
The 32-year-old mother was privately transported to a Metro Detroit hospital for treatment. The 14-year-old succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on Nov. 11, 2024.
It is alleged that a verbal altercation between the 15-year-old shooter and the 14-year-old victim escalated, and the 15-year-old produced and fired a handgun multiple times, striking the 14-yer-old in the head, left arm, right hand, and left thigh, and striking the 32-year-old mother in the right arm.
The 15-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder and felony firearm.
The preliminary hearing was held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Lincoln Hall of Justice.
