Wayne County pharmacist, brother convicted of $15M fraud scheme

DETROIT – Two Metro Detroit men have been convicted in a multi-million dollar medication fraud scheme.

According to authorities, Raad Zouza -- a pharmacist in Wayne County -- and his brother Ramis Kouza -- a resident of Oakland County -- billed Medicare, Medicaid and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan for prescription medications that they did not dispense at pharmacies.

They collectively caused more than $15 million in losses to Medicare, Medicaid and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

Both men were convicted by a federal jury on Friday, Nov. 8, of of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and wire fraud.

Additionally, Raad Kouza was also convicted of healthcare fraud.

Ramis Kouza faces a potential 20 years in prison and Raad Kouza faces a possible 30 years in prison.
