DETROIT – Mayor Mike Duggan’s time running Detroit is coming to an end.
He made the announcement on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, that he will not seek a fourth term in office.
His current term ends in January 2026. Duggan could possibly launch a campaign as a successor to Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who can’t run for reelection due to term limits.
Some names are already resurfacing as possible candidates, including City Council President Mary Sheffield, former City Councilmember Saunteel Jenkins and current City Councilmember and former Legislator Fred Durhal III. Coleman Young II could also be a possibility.
