DETROIT – The 21st annual Detroit Tree Lighting ceremony returns to Campus Martius Park this November.
The annual event brings thousands to Downtown Detroit to kick off the holiday season. This year the tree is a 66-foot Michigan-grown Norway spruce decorated with ornaments and illuminated with thousands of LED multi-colored lights.
People planning to attend the event are encouraged to arrive early. Here’s what you need to know:
When is the 2024 Detroit Tree Lighting?
The event is from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, 2024.
While minors are welcome to attend the event, anyone age 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or other responsible adult age 21 or older.
Where is the 2024 Detroit Tree Lighting event?
In the middle of Campus Martius Park in Downtown Detroit.
Parking and transit options are near Campus Martius Park, including public transit such as DDOT, SMART Bus (plus FAST), Detroit People Mover, QLINE, and MoGo. The city recommends drivers check ParkWhiz for additional parking options.
What else is planned for the 2024 event?
The three main acts for the 2024 Detroit Tree Lighting include Alex Sampson, Southern Avenue and Thornetta Davis taking center stage at the MGM Detroit Main Stage.
Other performances include The Next Generation Funk Brothers and The Pointe Singers. The Grinch from Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical is also expected to make an appearance.
International and Detroit-based talent will be on the ice on the Rink at Campus Martius Park presented by Visit Detroit. The skating event will be headlined by Canadian skating sensation Elladj Baldé. Other skating talent includes Linzy Fitzpatrick and Keyton Bearinger, and skaters from several Metro Detroit clubs.
Will food and drink be available?
Yes! New this year, there will be beverage stations located within the event. Adults can enjoy holiday favorites like Baily’s spiked hot cocoa, Mistletoe Margaritas, Cutwater Espresso Martinis, Cutwater Peppermint White Russian or all-season delights like Michelob Ultra, Brew Detroit Campin’ Beer and Blake’s Hard American Apple Cider. Non-alcoholic options include the Sheetz Hot Cocoa Exprezz, Faygo, water, and more.
