ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The annual blood drive competition between the University of Michigan and Ohio State University is underway. Here’s how you can participate and see Michigan Stadium.
The American Red Cross is hosting the “Be a Hero blood drive” at Michigan Stadium from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17, to collect donations as part of the “Blood Battle” competition.
The competition encourages the universities to see who can collect the most pints of blood during October and November.
The event on Sunday is the “largest single-day blood drive on the U-M campus,” according to a release from the Red Cross.
People who donate blood during this event will be able to see Michigan Stadium from the Jack Roth Stadium Club and will be able to tour the stadium from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Participants will also have the chance to see Victor the Frisbee Dog at the front entrance of the Big House from 10 a.m. to noon.
All donors who give during these drives will receive a T-shirt and coupons for local businesses. At Sunday’s event, participants will be given a coupon for Washtenaw Dairy and a $10 e-gift card.
There will also be the opportunity to win prizes.
“The annual Blood Battle is a great way to get not only students, but the entire Ann Arbor community involved in donating blood to help combat the blood supply shortages we regularly face,” said Chris Sonnenday, M.D., Transplant Center Director at U-M Health in a release announcing this year’s blood battle. “We are thankful for the continued support from the Red Cross helping us host this event each year.”

Other local blood drive dates can also be found on the Red Cross website. The final blood drive of the Blood Battle series is on Nov. 27, according to the release.
The winning university will be given a trophy during the U-M vs. OSU football game in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024.
