Teen killed, 4 other people injured in Southfield Freeway rollover crash

Police say driver of van lost control of vehicle

DETROIT – A 19-year-old girl from Pontiac was killed and four other people were injured in a rollover crash on the Southfield Freeway, according to police.

The crash happened at 4:50 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, in the southbound lanes of the Southfield Freeway near Joy Road in Detroit.

Police said a 39-year-old man from Dearborn was driving a Ford van when he lost control and the van rolled over onto its side, sliding into a Ford Fusion in the right lane.

The Pontiac girl was a passenger in the van. She was partially thrown from the vehicle during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and two other passengers in the van were taken to an area hospital. The driver of the Fusion was also taken to a hospital.
