Woman killed after being hit by 3 vehicles in Monroe County

Sheriff’s office searching for first vehicle that struck woman

BEDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 43-year-old woman was killed after being struck by three vehicles while walking on Smith Road in Bedford Township on Saturday night.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said that at around 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, Erika R. Todd, 43, of Erie Township, was walking near the shoulder of Smith Road west of Telegraph Road when she was struck by a driver who did not stay at the scene of the crash.

Officials do not know the make or model of the vehicle that initially struck Todd and kept driving, leaving her in the east and westbound lanes of Smith Road. Todd was struck by two more vehicles before first responders arrived on scene and pronounced her dead.

While in the road, Todd was struck a second time, this time by a 2007 Honda Accord driven by a 65-year-old woman from Toledo, Ohio. The 65-year-old woman pulled over on the westbound shoulder of Smith Road.

A 19-year-old woman from Erie Township driving a 2007 Nissan Sentra struck Todd in the eastbound lanes. A 24-year-old man from Erie Township was a passenger in the vehicle. The 19-year-old woman pulled over on the eastbound shoulder of the road.

The two drivers and passenger involved in the subsequent crashes were not injured and were released, according to officials.

The crash is still under investigation. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help locating the first vehicle that struck Todd.
