Oakland County community rallies around family after deadly crash

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – An Oakland County community is mourning a young lady who ended up passing away, all because of the mistake of one driver, leading to a head-on collision.

Sherry Rietz can only remember the good times she had with her niece, Alexis Rietz after she was killed in Brandon Township this past Saturday (Nov. 15).

The pain of losing the 21-year-old affectionately known as Lexie is almost too much to understand and process.

“There was nobody as caring or as loving as she was,” said Rietz. “Honestly, it’s still just not real. We’re just still In shock.”

Reports say it was actually a three-vehicle crash that happened at the intersection.

Unfortunately, it looks like it was a 31-year-old driver of a vehicle that ended up veering out of her lane, which led to a chain reaction, causing Lexie to pass away.

“She has two younger twin sisters, and she just made it her mission to make sure that they have every adventure and every opportunity,” Rietz said.

Those two sisters were in the car at the time of the crash. Both are expected to be OK, and one even had to have surgery.

“Physically, they’re OK,” Rietz said. “They’re really sore. They’re hurting a lot. But I think, emotionally, they haven’t really accepted too much,” Rietz said.

Investigators say that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. Yet, no charges were officially filed.

Of course, the accident, which took everyone by surprise, has garnered some support from the community, and everyone enjoyed being around Lexie.

Many of them have donated to take care of funeral arrangements and so much more.

“I can’t tell you how many people have just poured out their love, their fund,” Rietz said. “It’s just crazy to me the amount of just love and support that we got from everybody all over. We have so many questions, and there’s so much stuff that we understand. But we do know that God’s good, and he’s always taken care of us, and he’s always been there. And that’s the one thing that we’re relying on right now.”

Lexie’s funeral is set for Saturday.
