Warren officer left lying paralyzed for hours after fall during hunting trip

Family asks for help after officer’s devastating injury

WARREN, Mich. – An off-duty Warren police officer was left lying on the ground paralyzed for hours after he fell during a hunting trip.

Nick Kott has been with the Warren Police Department for 13 years, but now he’s at the hospital after a bad fall Saturday left him paralyzed.

“My husband tripped out of his tree stand,” Holli Kott said. “He fell on his back and he was lying there for a couple of hours.”

His father and neighbor eventually found him, and he was airlifted to University of Michigan Hospital. He’s still receiving treatment.

Fellow officers have been at his side every step of the way.

“It is the most unbelievable, peaceful feeling inside of me knowing we have so much love and care for Nick,” Holli Kott said. “It’s indescribable.”

The family has expensive medical bills, and they need to make their two-story home more accessible for Kott. At the same time, they want to provide a sense of normalcy for their 7-year-old son, Jack.

“I just want him to be able to play with his son,” Holli Kott said.
