Detroit’s QLINE surpasses 1 million riders in 2024

QLINE surpasses its 2023 total rider number before end of 2024

The QLINE streetcar operates on Woodward Ave., Friday, May 12, 2017, in Detroit. The $140 million QLINE light rail system will connect Campus Martius in downtown Detroit to the city's New Center. The QLINE features three-piece streetcars that are each 66 feet long and can carry an average of 125 passengers per car. DETROIT – Detroit’s QLINE recently reached the one million rider mark for 2024, surpassing its total ridership number for 2023.

Ridership this year was boosted by improved service, an increase in regular riders and the NFL Draft that was hosted in Detroit, according to a release from the Regional Transit Authority, which took over the QLINE’s operations in October.

“Thank you to our riders and staff for making 2024 the QLINE’s best year yet,” said RTA Executive Director Ben Stupka. “The QLINE continues to demonstrate the positive impact our communities experience when we invest in transit. With the holiday season upon us, there’s never been a better time to hop on board the QLINE and experience all that Greater Downtown has to offer.”

The QLINE is a free circulating streetcar that transports riders along Woodward Avenue from Congress St. in Downtown Detroit through Midtown to Grand Boulevard in New Center and North End. Riders can catch the QLINE from 8 a.m. to midnight, Monday-Saturday and from 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. on Sundays.

Newly installed art designed by Zoyes Creative is featured at each of the 12 QLINE Stations. The art includes “seven original design concepts with the tagline, ‘Every Stop is a Start’. The Dots represent the variety of destinations to explore along the Woodward corridor, reflecting the fun and joy that the QLINE offers its passengers,” according to the release.

For the annual tree lighting at Campus Martius Park, the QLINE is offering park-and-ride options in collaboration with Wayne State University.

The university will offer $5 parking in Lot 12, which is next to the Amsterdam station.
