‘I’m going to jail, right’: Woman escapes suspected captor, runs for help in Southfield

Man can be seen smiling in mug shot

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.Southfield police have arrested Prenentice Mack Orr, 41, of Wyoming, Michigan, for allegedly sex trafficking a 32-year-old Georgia woman over a two-week period.

Orr was taken into custody at the Sonesta Simply Suites hotel on Friday (Nov. 22) after the victim managed to escape and alert a hotel employee, who called 911.

In footage of the arrest, Orr can be heard saying, “I’m going to jail, right?” He is also seen smiling in his mugshot.

“For him to think it’s funny, I guarantee he won’t be laughing long,” said Southfield police Chief Elvin Barren.

Barren said Orr had taken control of the victim’s ID, phone, credit cards, and other personal information, leaving her unable to contact anyone.

The victim, who was homeless at the time, had been introduced to Orr through a mutual acquaintance.

She knew him only as “Jay” and said he claimed to be a member of the “Gangster Disciples” gang, boasting that he had killed before.

Orr allegedly forced the woman into prostitution in cities in Georgia and in Michigan — including Grand Rapids, keeping all the money she earned and imposed strict rules — including making her brush her teeth and shower five times daily.

He deprived her of proper food, offering only coffee and sea moss to induce weight loss, and threatened to take her to Florida for weight loss surgery.

The woman ultimately escaped Orr’s control by purposely leaving phone chargers in his car, so when he needed them, she was able to leave to get them for him. Instead, the woman fled his hotel room, alerting a hotel clerk to room 232 and hiding in the laundry room until police arrived.

In a 911 call, the hotel clerk said, “The person she’s in the room with—she doesn’t barely know him. He has all her information. She doesn’t want to be in the room. She’s scared to go back up.”

Police revealed that Orr has a criminal record dating back to 1999, including charges across multiple states for crimes such as pimping and armed robbery.

Alarmingly, Orr brought his four-year-old son along during his human trafficking activities.

“Who brings their four-year-old child from state to state when you know you’re involved in human trafficking?” asked Chief Barren. “What does this do for that child’s future? What type of parent is this?”

The child is now with protective services, and the victim is safe. Orr is being held on a $3 million bond and is scheduled to be back in court on Dec. 5, 2024.

In a poignant moment after the arrest, the victim asked for comfort — a hug from the officer. The officer said, “You want me to give you a hug? I’ll give you a hug.”
