Man charged after break-in, police chase in Macomb County

Bond was set at $25,000, cash/surety

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Joseph Calderon, 45, from Detroit, has been arrested after fleeing his stolen vehicle and hiding in a bush following a break-in in Macomb County.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 3 a.m. in the 41900 block of Irwin Drive in Harrison Township.

The 45-year-old allegedly cut through a fence to enter the property. Officials said they were informed that he had left the property in a stolen vehicle, which was located.

Calderon refused to stop, causing stop sticks to be deployed to stop the vehicle as a tire was lost in the process.

Officials say he continued to flee until his vehicle came to rest in a field in the area.

Calderon fled on foot. An MCSO K9 tracked him and located him hiding under a bush.

Officials took Calderon into custody without further incident.

Two electric bicycles and batteries were recovered, along with the stolen vehicle and tools.

Two Deputies suffered minor injuries during the chase. They were taken to a Metro Detroit hospital for treatment.

Calderon was charged on Nov. 28 in 41District Court in Clinton Township on charges of:

• One count of possession of burglar’s tools, 10-year felony

• One count of police officer, fleeing third degree, which is a five-year felony • Three Counts of unlawful driving away, which is a five-year felony • One count of malicious destruction of property $1,000 - $20,000 – five-year felony

• One count of breaking and entering/vehicle stolen property $1,000 - $20,000 – five-year felony

• Three counts of larceny $1,000 - $20,000 – five-year felony

• Two counts of police officer assault/resist/obstruct causing injury – four-year felony Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Anthony M. Wickersham • One count of operating while license suspended – one-year misdemeanor

Bond was set at $25,000, cash/surety as Calderon remains housed at the Macomb County Jail.
