I-94 in West Michigan reopens following crash involving at least 17 vehicles

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. – I-94 near Hartford in Van Buren County reopened Monday night after a 17-vehicle crash.

The crash happened on Dec. 2 following heavy lake-effect snow plowing through the area. Michigan State Police said the multi-vehicle crash involved about 14 passenger vehicles and three semi-trucks. One driver was critically injured.

Police said there were also at least 15 vehicle slide-offs separate from the crashes. Police believe driving too fast in whiteout conditions from the heavy snow was a factor in the crashes.

At around 8 p.m. on Monday, police said the freeway reopened and released bodycam footage of the scene. You can watch it below:
