Autopsy shows driver was drunk in deadly crash involving Warren police officers

Newly obtained documents revealed the driver killed in a crash with Warren police officers in September was driving drunk.

At 5 a.m. on Sept. 30, a white Dodge Durango and Warren police car were involved in a crash on Schoenherr Road at Prospect Road.

Officer James Burke, who was driving the patrol car, was charged with manslaughter after allegedly speeding without lights and sirens when he hit the SUV.

Cedric Hayden Jr., 34, and Dejuan Pettis, 33, were killed in the crash. Burke’s partner was injured.

Here’s how many deer were harvested in Michigan during firearm season

Michigan’s regular firearm season ended on Nov. 30, and hunters harvested fewer deer than in previous years, according to current data from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

Hunters have up 72 hours after taking a deer to report it, so the current numbers could change a bit, but so far, the data shows that the numbers are down from the amount of deer killed in previous years.

I-94 in West Michigan reopens following crash involving at least 17 vehicles

I-94 near Hartford in Van Buren County reopened Monday night after a 17-vehicle crash.

The crash happened on Dec. 2 following heavy lake-effect snow plowed through the area. Michigan State Police said the multi-vehicle crash involved about 14 passenger vehicles and three semi-trucks. One driver was critically injured.
