Mystery donor drops their last gold coin in Salvation Army red kettle

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – For maybe the last time, someone has left a rare South African gold Krugerrand in a Salvation Army’s red kettle.

The mysterious donator has given thousands of dollars over the last 12 years in Metro Detroit through the yearly donation of Krugerrand coins.

On Monday, Dec. 2, a coin estimated to be worth $2,642 was dropped off at a St. Clair Shores Kroger store.

A note with the coin said that it’s their last ever Krugerrand donation, but the mystery donator is hoping other people with Krugerrand coins continue the tradition.
