WHITE LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Federal authorities are investigating a cyberattack that compromised financial transactions in White Lake Township.

Officials learned on Nov. 21 that a “sophisticated cybersecurity attack” caused a compromised financial transaction related to a new issue of infrastructure bonds, according to a release from White Lake Township Police Chief Daniel Keller on Dec. 4.

Impacted financial institutions and federal authorities are working with the police department to investigate.

Due to the investigation, some parts of the township’s project on a new civic center complex will have to be put on hold, according to the release.

As part of the investigation, the township is reviewing its internal systems and processes.

“No further details of the incident are available at this time as this is an ongoing investigation,” Keller said in the release. “We are committed to being transparent. As we learn more, we will keep you informed.”
