Winter storm watch issued for 20 Michigan counties with 6-12 inches of snow possible

How lake-effect snow forms and when it will hit Metro Detroit
Beginning Tuesday night, there will be a cold blast and lake-effect snow chances in Metro Detroit.
Metro Detroit will see some light snow, possibly Tuesday night into Wednesday, but Arctic air will surge through the Great Lakes Wednesday afternoon and evening, kicking off the stronger lake-effect showers.
Strong winds may lead to blowing snow and will also drop wind chills into the single digits, if not below zero, by Thursday morning. This is almost an identical setup to what we had last week.
The worst of the system will be on the west side of the state, where Winter Storm Watches are in effect.

Local 4 talked with the chief of sports medicine at the Detroit Medical Center on Monday (Dec. 9). He’s treated several athletes with the same injury as Hutchinson.

Weather: Here’s when snow, blustery winds, below zero wind chills will hit Metro Detroit
A drier start Tuesday morning and still mild as you wake up to temperatures on either side of 40. We just won’t get much warmer than that today as highs will be in the low 40s under cloudy skies.
Fairly quiet Tuesday as we get ready for the cold blast and lake effect snow chances through midweek. Lows tonight fall to around freezing.
