TAYLOR, Mich. – A man posing as a season worker stole electronics from a Target in Taylor before fleeing and crashing into vehicles.
The incident occurred on Tuesday (Dec. 10) at 6 a.m. in the 14099 block of Pardee Road.
Officials said the man posed as a season rehire and was granted access to the establishment.
He was previously on the payroll as a seasonal employee, so he could talk to the employee who opened the door for him in a manner that made her comfortable letting him in.
Once the man got inside, using his previous experience, he went unassisted to the customer service area and opened the register’s till, where he discovered it was empty.
While in the area, he observed a PlayStation console and air pods awaiting customer pickup, stole those items, and fled the store.
Store employees had notified the police, unaware that the man was not on the roster.
He exited the store while police arrived and drove north on Pardee Road at a high speed.
Officers briefly pursued but were terminated by the patrol supervisor.
The man continued to flee at a high rate of speed after officers turned off their emergency equipment.
While doing this, he crashed into two vehicles at the Pardee and Goddard roads intersection.
He was taken into custody, and the stolen property was recovered.
No serious injuries were reported.
Detectives are preparing a warrant request to submit to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
