MARQUETTE, Mich. – A city in Michigan is requesting input as it considers if dogs should be allowed at public playgrounds.

The Marquette Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will discuss a proposal from city staff to potentially ban dogs at playgrounds, which comes after concerns were raised about the potential health hazards caused by dog waste and possible unwanted interactions between dogs and children.

Board members are seeking public comment about this potential ban at their next meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16, according to an announcement on the city’s website.

During the meeting, there will be two opportunities for residents to give their input, and each person will be given three minutes to speak.

Anyone who is unable to attend the meeting can email a written comment to Andrew MacIver, the city’s staff liaison, at AMacIver@marquettemi.gov.
