KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. – While severe winter weather hit Michigan late Wednesday into Thursday morning, multiple vehicle crashes and slide-offs were reported—including a crash involving first responders.
At around 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 12, 2024, first responders were helping at the scene of a crash on eastbound I-94 in Comstock Township when a box truck overturned and struck three Comstock fire vehicles and a Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office patrol car.
The box truck driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. No one else was injured in the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.

“We urge everyone to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary during severe winter weather,” said the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook. “If you must be on the road, please use extreme caution, reduce your speed, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Your safety—and the safety of first responders—depends on it.”
