MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Candice S. Miller announced that she had appointed Don Brown to become deputy public works commissioner/government relations following his resignation as chairman of the county Board of Commissioners.
Brown will start working at the Public Works Office on Monday, Dec. 16, 2024.

He announced his resignation from the Board of Commissioners on Thursday (Dec. 12) at the end of the last full board meeting of the year.
A resident of Washington Township, Brown has served on the board for 34 consecutive years—17 terms—including the last four years as chairman.
He won his first term on the county board two years after being elected trustee on the township Board of Trustees in 1988 at age 25.
Brown most recently served as chairman of the Michigan Association of Counties’ Environmental Committee and as a member of the National Association of Counties’ Environment, Energy, and Land Use Policy Steering Committee.
As a Republican, he previously worked for Miller as deputy district director when she served in Congress.
As the new deputy commissioner/government relations in the Public Works Office, Brown will the post that had been vacant since late September when former deputy commissioner Dan Acciavatti left to enter the private sector.
Brown and other Macomb County board members were elected to a first-ever four-year term in November.
The new board takes office on Jan. 1 and will work to select a new chairman.
They can also solicit interest from residents in District 1, Washington, Bruce, Armada, Ray, and Richmond townships; a portion of northwest Shelby Township; the city of Richmond; the villages of Romeo and Armada; and the southern half of the village of Memphis in northeast Macomb County along the St. Clair County border, to serve the remainder of Brown’s unexpired term.
