DETROIT – A suspect who allegedly shot at a Metro Detroit man’s car on Southfield Freeway Wednesday morning has been identified.

At around 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, the Detroit Police Department Dispatch Center started receiving reports of a shooting on northbound M-39 near Schoolcraft.

Detroit officers discovered a car with bullet holes on the northbound service drive near 8 Mile.

The driver, a 33-year-old Taylor man, told officers that he had been shot at while driving on the freeway.

The car was struck, but no one was injured. A preliminary investigation revealed that this was a road rage shooting.

In the afternoon on Wednesday, state police released an update and said that witness tips and evidence collected at the scene helped them identify the suspect vehicle.

The suspect vehicle was stopped, and the suspect was taken in for an interview.

Authorities also recovered a gun.

The case pends further investigation.

“Thank you to the members of our community who witnessed this crime and provided information that led us to this suspect,” said Michigan State Lt. Mike Shaw. “We appreciate the partnership we have with the community that helps us build a Michigan where everyone feels safe and secure.”
