Ohio man arrested, charged in Plymouth-Canton Ballet Company trailer theft

Man faces charges in 2 townships

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – A 20-year-old from Ohio is facing several felonies after allegedly stealing a trailer from the Plymouth-Canton Ballet Company.

The theft happened on Nov. 17 outside a dance studio on Ronda Drive in Canton Township. The black, enclosed 24-foot trailer housed all the larger props intended for an upcoming performance of The Nutcracker.

The ballet company launched a GoFundMe campaign and raised nearly $19,000 to purchase and build new props for this year’s adaptation.

Police with Canton and Plymouth townships identified the suspect as 20-year-old Brandon Keel, a resident of Toledo. He was taken into custody Tuesday, Dec. 17.

Keel was charged in Canton Township with larceny of property valued at $20,000 or more and receiving and concealing stolen property. He was also arraigned on the same charges in Plymouth Township. Both townships set his bond at $20,000 cash.

His next court hearing is scheduled for Dec. 27.
