A Macomb County man accused of armed robbery allegedly attacked several people who stopped to help him on I-69, police said.
At 3 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22, Calhoun County deputies responded to a motorist assist call on I-69 near the I-94 interchange in Marshall Township.
When they arrived, they encountered a 37-year-old St. Clair Shores man who was allegedly intoxicated and uncooperative, according to authorities.
Authorities say the man was aggressive and attacked multiple people who had stopped to assist him. This caused non-life-threatening injuries.
While investigating, deputies discovered that the suspect had committed an armed robbery in Galesburg, which is located in Kalamazoo County.
When they tried to apprehend the suspect, he allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted hospital staff. He was receiving treatment for "injuries sustained prior to law enforcement contact," according to authorities.
Authorities found the weapon and stolen items from the robbery in the man’s vehicle and turned them over to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect is being held at the Calhoun County Jail on multiple felony charges.
