Oakland County man charged with murder in argument that led to fatal gas station shooting

WARREN, Mich. – A 45-year-old man from Hazel Park has been denied bond in connection with a deadly shooting at a Warren gas station.

The shooting happened Saturday, Dec. 21, at a gas station near the intersection of Dequindre and Nine Mile roads.

According to authorities, Al Curtis Williams entered the gas station and got into a verbal argument with 38-year-old Brandon Zaner. Williams allegedly left the gas station and returned a few minutes later with a gun. He reportedly hit Zaner in the face, which resulted in a fight between the two of them that ended when Williams shot Zaner in the chest.

Zaner died from his injuries.

Police said Williams and Zaner did not know each other.

Williams was charged with second-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of felony firearm. He was denied bond and remanded back to jail.

Williams' preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 2.
