OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – The owners of a local toy store stepped up to make this Christmas extra special for a family going through a tough time.
Local 4 shared the story Saturday of a Westland family of nine asking for help this Christmas after their 9-month-old, Jojo, was diagnosed with liver cancer.
Ezra Klar, 8, saw the story air and told his mom he wanted to help.
“I was like, ‘Ooo let’s donate some stuff from Toyology,’” Klar said.
Klar’s family owns Toyology Toys in Oakland County.
Klar’s mom loved the idea and contacted Local 4 to help get in touch with Jojo’s family.
“She came last night… and shopped for the triplets and they have four other kids at home as well,” Jenna Klar said.
The Klars gifted Jojo’s mom, Stacy Wells, a $500 shopping spree that went a long way.
“She gave me a bunch of freebies, she put a generous discount on all of the things that we picked out so we could get even more so it was truly more than $500 worth of things,” Wells said.
By the time they were done shopping, Wells’ van was packed full.
“The story really touched us and Ezra was so cute being her assistant throughout the store last night,” Jenna Klar said. “He carried out the bags and was so proud.”
Wells is excited to give her family a memorable holiday after a trying couple of weeks since the diagnosis.
“There is a possibility that this could be our only Christmas with Jojo so for it to be special is really important,” Wells said.
The family has launched a GoFundMe page and has a Facebook page with their story.
