Oakland County community shaken by triple-shooting on Christmas Eve

Suspect fired at least 30 rounds, authorities say

OXFORD, Mich. – The small town of Oxford, still recovering from a mass shooting three years ago, was shaken by a triple-shooting on Christmas Eve, leaving one woman dead, another injured, and a third fighting for her life.

Deputies are still working to piece together the timeline of what led up to the shooting.

It happened just after 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24, on Ray Road between Lapeer and N. Oxford roads. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found three people with gunshot wounds.

They were all taken to hospitals to be treated for their injuries. One woman died from her injuries, a man was hurt and a woman remains gravely injured.

“The individual who is fighting through these injuries was shot multiple times throughout her body, torso, upper part of the body, so a lot of significant injury and damage,” said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.

A suspect from Genessee County was arrested later that night. He reportedly fired off at least 30 rounds. According to the sheriff’s office, he was just passing through the area on his way home to Genessee County from a Christmas party. He reportedly got into two collisions before ending up in Oxford.

“He had some issue, went off and had a minor accident in his car and had an interaction at that site, and then left that site and went to a different area where he had another kind of accident,” Bouchard said.

Deputies began getting calls from different areas at about 6:30 p.m. and they began trying to piece together a timeline. After finding three people shot, they created a staging area for emergency responders at a nearby Meijer parking lot.

“From that final scene beginning to develop, we actually spotted our suspect in the roadway with the firearm,” Bouchard said.

Authorities said the suspect is a convicted felon who they believe went on a violent spree across multiple locations. He reportedly has a history of weapon and drug charges going back ten years.

Bouchard said the suspect could be charged with murder, assault, attempted murder and more.
