Woman shot, injured while driving on I-94; 2 children in car OK

Vehicle shot multiple times, shell casings located

DETROIT – A woman was shot and injured while driving with two children on I-94 in Detroit, according to Michigan State Police.

The shooting happened at 1:40 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2024, in the westbound lanes of I-94 near Mt. Elliott Street. Police said the victim’s vehicle had multiple bullet holes in it and there were shell casings found on the freeway.

The woman was shot once and transported to an area hospital to be treated. There were two children in the car who were not hurt. They were picked up at the scene of the shooting by family.

Police said the woman will require surgery but is expected to survive.

The freeway was closed for the investigation but has since been reopened.

“Currently, we don’t know why the driver was shot at and do not have any information on the suspect or suspect vehicle.” said Michgian State Police F/Lt Mike Shaw. “While detectives are using all the technology available to investigate this shooting, we are asking members of the community who may have information to call either 855.MICH.TIP or Crime Stoppers at 800.SPEAK.UP.”
