Family demands answers in deadly Detroit shooting

DETROIT – A family in Detroit is desperate for answers after a loved one was shot and killed.

Kevaughn Price was shot and killed in 2023 near his home on Detroit’s west side. It’s unknown why he was targeted.

His family said he brought not only joy, but also inspiration to his loved ones and they want the shooter to be brought to justice.

“I just don’t understand why,” said his mother, Chantel Price. “If you knew him, you would have loved him. You didn’t know him if you took him away me. You had no idea who he was a person.”

28-year-old Kevaughn Price had just gotten into his car on Oakfield Avenue between Pilgrim and Puritan and was on his way to work on June 8, 2023, when another vehicle drove by and someone fired shots. He was killed and left an unfillable void in so many hearts.

“He was just a good guy. He was quiet. He was humble. But everybody loved him,” Chantel Price said. “Everybody loved him. He drew people to him without even having to say a word.”

The killer remains on the run and Price’s family is pleading for help to find the person responsible.

“You know who you are and if you got any kind of conscience, any kind of conscience and the people around you if they got any kind of conscience, just call Crime Stoppers,” said his grandmother, Jacqueline Price.

“Kay P” as he was known among his loved ones was a source of inspiration for so many.

“My brother was so outgoing, ambitious. He didn’t let nothing stop him,” said Kamiya Price. “Every day is still a fight for me to understand that I’m living life without my big brother. He was more than just a brother to me. That’s what I want this world to understand and know. He was a leader and motivator. He was what kept me going.”
