FERNDALE, Mich. – A man has been charged after he allegedly attacked two women, knocking one of them unconscious, during a carjacking in the parking lot of a Ferndale bar, officials said.
At 12:02 a.m. on Dec. 26, the two women were leaving New Way Bar at 23130 Woodward Avenue when Bryan Marks, 40, of Mount Clemens, allegedly attacked them, according to police.
Police say the women were trying to leave the bar’s parking lot when Marks stood behind their vehicle, blocking the exit, and “accused them of nearly hitting another car.”
He allegedly approached the driver’s side window, punched the driver and then assaulted the passenger who got out of the car to intervene.
The passenger was knocked unconscious from the assault, and when the driver tended to her, Marks got into their vehicle and drove away from the bar.
The stolen car was spotted heading northbound on Woodward Avenue, but when officers tried to initiate a traffic stop, Marks fled, according to police.
Marks eventually lost control of the car while trying to turn eastbound onto Greenleaf Drive, crashing the car into the shrubbery at the Amoco Gas Station at 28610 Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak.
He ran away from the crash scene but was quickly taken into custody by Ferndale officers.
Marks was charged with two counts of carjacking, fleeing a police officer and operating with no license.
He was arraigned on Dec. 26 and given a $500,000 cash bond. Officials say he is expected to appear in court again on Jan. 2, 2025.
